Pied-à-terre

It is a term of French origin, whose meaning is “have your feet on the ground”.  However in decoration, it is used to define a second home, in which you live a short period of time, but it isn’t a vacation home. Generally, it is an apartment in big cities where a person spends different seasons of the year.

It talks about the element that focus the eye and attention at the entrance of a space. It is the point or element that determines furniture and objects’ disposition.

In decoration, this term is used to discover that a space is in harmony among its different elements.

Toile de Jouy

The concept refers to printing rural scenes in a monochromatic shade (violet, red, blue, etc) on degraded colors. This technique is usually made in painted paper.

Shade

The difference with the range term, that we saw in the precedent post, is that shade is the colors without mixtures.
